Department of Revenue phishing scams
The Department of Revenue (Department) is aware of a scam that sends texts or emails to taxpayers, residents, and government employees. These messages:
- Ask the recipient to click a link or provide banking information
- Use international phone numbers
- Refer to refunds and laws that do not apply or exist
- Pressure the recipient with deadlines
These are scams.
The Department of Revenue provides the following advice:
- The Department does not send text messages about tax refunds
- Do not reply or click links
- If you have been a victim of this or any other scam, contact your financial institution and your local sheriff’s office
- Please report the scams
